Playona is an extensive beach to the south of Acandí, which was recently declared as a Wildlife Sanctuary in order to protect nesting sea turtles. It is an obligatory destination between the months of April and July for all fans of sea turtles.
Four species of sea turtle nest on the beach, including the Leatherback Turtle – the largest in the World – the Loggerhead Turtle, Green Turtle and the Hawksbill Turtle.
How to get there: Most visitors arrive with tours from San Francisco, Capurganà or Necoclí. If you are not staying in Playona it is advisable to arrive before sunset and leave after sunrise, in order to avoid travelling at night by boat. Trips can be organized with local tour operators such as Ecohuellas (ecohuellas.sas@gmail.com). |
